Establishing a learning facility
Beyond the physical restoration, a key aspect of FOFAH's vision is to create a dynamic learning environment for people of all ages. Future plans include: Developing an interpretive center to tell the story of the farm and display artifacts, including one of Hendee's Indian Motocycles. Offering hands-on educational programs focused on farming, food, and the environment. Continuing to host community events and workshops, such as the annual Oktoberfest and Vintage Base Ball games.
Promoting agriculture and sustainability
FOFAH is bringing the farm back to its agricultural roots in a modern, sustainable way. Community Gardens: The farm offers garden plots for individuals and families to cultivate their own produce. Orchards and Fields: An organically maintained fruit orchard is being established, providing fresh fruit and creating a habitat for native wildlife. The organization also works with local farmers and agencies to maintain soil quality in the open space. Creamery and Farm Stand: The new creamery serves gelato, and a farm stand offers locally sourced products, including produce from the farm itself.
Conserving natural resources
FOFAH's vision extends to the entire 60 acres of leased conservation land, with a strong focus on land stewardship. Wildlife Habitat: The organization actively enhances wetlands and protects the nesting sites of bald eagles. Trails and Access: Visitors can enjoy hiking trails, including a route that leads to the Connecticut River. The farm provides opportunities for recreation like kite flying, snowshoeing, and wildlife observation.
A call to the community
The realization of FOFAH's vision is made possible by the dedicated efforts of community volunteers and generous donations. Through preserving the farm's unique history and fostering a deep connection to the land, FOFAH is ensuring that Hilltop Farm remains a beloved and valuable community asset for generations to come.
