Will The Eagle Return?

Bring Eagles Back To Hilltop

Can It Be Done?

Bringing Eagles
Back To Hilltop

Bald eagle pairs have historically nested at Hilltop Farm in Suffield, CT, and their presence is a part of the farm's identity. The Friends of the Farm at Hilltop (FOFAH) actively work to maintain Hilltop Farm as a community resource, including supporting land stewardship by enhancing wetlands and nesting bald eagle sites. They have even named their major annual fundraiser the "Bald Eagle Golf Outing," demonstrating the significance of eagles to the farm.

However, recent information suggests that the nest at Hilltop Farm has fallen into disrepair, and eagles have not nested there for the past three years. This initiative aims to address this issue by generating community involvement and support to restore the eagle nesting site and encourage the eagles to return to Hilltop Farm.

Our Goal

Restore the nesting site and encourage the eagle's return.

Here are the details for our campaign to bring eagles back to Hilltop Farm in Suffield, CT

The Path
To Fruition

  • Assess and plan the nesting site restoration

  • Consult with wildlife experts, such as the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) or the National Audubon Society, to assess the current condition of the nesting site.

  • Develop a comprehensive plan for nest repair, including sourcing appropriate materials like sticks, branches, and natural nesting materials.

  • Consider building a sturdy nesting platform or reinforcing the existing structure, similar to projects undertaken by other wildlife conservation organizations.

  • Community engagement and fundraising

  • Organize a "Hilltop Farm Eagle Restoration Day" event to engage volunteers in site cleanup, material gathering, and nest preparation.

  • Utilize existing FOFAH fundraising events, such as the Bald Eagle Golf Outing, to raise funds specifically for the eagle restoration project.

  • Seek additional grants or donations from organizations dedicated to wildlife conservation and habitat restoration, such as the American Eagle Foundation.

  • Leverage social media, local news outlets like The Suffield Observer, and FOFAH's website to share progress updates, volunteer opportunities, and donation requests.

  • Ongoing monitoring and support

  • Monitor the restored nesting site for eagle activity and ensure a safe and welcoming environment for their return.

  • Educate the public about responsible eagle viewing practices, emphasizing the importance of minimizing human disturbance, especially during nesting season.

  • Continue to work with wildlife experts to maintain the health of the surrounding ecosystem and ensure ample food sources for the eagles.
